Dani Russell- OPEX CCP Level 1 Coach

I coached basketball at the collegiate level from 2012 – 2014 as an assistant – this is where my coaching journey began. I loved the team but because I could not cut it financially coaching full time, I found it to be impossible to really stay connected. I also saw coaching as being so much more than X’s & O’s on a basketball court. At that level so much of what goes into being a coach is lost and athletes tend to be looked at simply as making a program better and more successful in wins. I began my own CrossFit career in 2012 and took my CF L1 in August of 2013. A year later I began coaching CrossFit and haven’t stopped since. I currently take private training and ID clients and love every second of it! I’ve only just begun my journey with the OPEX CCP but I already feel more confident, empowered, and excited as a coach in my position.

The owner of my gym, Eric Malzone, has gone through all the OPEX CCP modules and from the very beginning has modeled his coaching, gym, and philosophies after the OPEX model. I took the OPEX Athlete Camp in October of 2015 with Mike Lee, and then heard James Fitzgerald speak at the Strength Matters Summit in San Diego back in May and I was immediately sold. It was a matter of getting the funds together, but I knew I had to make it happen. Both Mike and James’ energy, philosophies, and presentations were so compelling and real that I was immediately hooked.

I was most excited about Life Coaching because my favorite part about coaching is connecting with people and helping them to create better lives and realizing the greatness in themselves. Life Coaching no doubt helped me in that regard.

Assessment surprised me the most. I took it live after having watched the videos online and it was quite different in person. I know Michael Bann has changed the module quite a bit and I definitely think he has made it better! I didn’t expect to get so many useful tools out of assessment, but it has changed the way I approach and design programs for each client.

To simply become a better, more knowledgeable, and educated coach so that I could more confidently approach each client knowing what they need to get where they want to be. I was also hoping it would speed up the time of my programming without losing quality which it has also done.

Since returning from taking Assessment, Program Design, and Life Coaching live in May, my whole outlook on coaching has been different. I now wait to really get insight into what each client’s goals are as opposed to projecting my own goals onto them and designing a program based on my plan. I have 3 new clients since taking the first 3 modules and have used what I learned in every aspect of my coaching. I’m hoping to follow along with the Cohort and get through each module successfully in the timeframe given.

I have several goals: 1) I want 25 ID clients – this is important because it will financially allow me to confidently walk away from my other job at a restaurant so that I can dedicate my full time and attention to doing what I love – coaching. 2) To complete the OPEX CCP Level 1 modules and case study and earn my certificate – this is important because I know it will help me to be a successful coach in every way, especially in changing lives!

OPEX has given me the tools necessary to work with people having goals ranging from weight loss to competitive athlete and everywhere in between. I am now confident that I can really change people’s lives for the better.

Among many other things, what I find to be most valuable is that OPEX helped me to realize that I am EXACTLY where I want to be in life. I get to work with people on a daily basis to better the quality of their lives and gain confidence in who they are and their direction in life. There is nothing more rewarding.
