The Battle For The Podium

Two OPEX Athletes Will Fight Against Each Other For Only One CrossFit Games Qualifying Spot

OPEX Athletes Emmanuel Maldonado and Luis Oscar Mora will be battling for first in the upcoming CrossFit Latin America Regional this weekend which starts May 25th, 2018. Despite the age difference between the two, they are both hardened and seasoned CrossFit Competitors.

The Latin American Regional has returned this year and is quite different from many of the other Regionals happening around the world. There is only one qualifying position. If they don’t make first place, they aren’t going to the 2018 CrossFit Games. This adds a whole new layer of competition and fierceness that we have yet to see in the 2018 CrossFit competitive season.

Emmanuel Maldonado, coached by Director of Coaching Mike Lee, has been competing in the Sport of Fitness since 2013. He has been to Regionals as an individual twice in 2013 in 2014. In 2014, he secured a qualifying position at the Latin American Regionals for the 2014 CrossFit Games. In the four years since his first appearance, he has failed to qualify for regional competition. However, with the reintroduction of the Latin American Regional again, Emmanuel hopes that this could be the year he finally returns to the competition floor. Regardless of the outcome, it will also be his last year, as he is seeking to move away from the competitive side of CrossFit.

Luis Oscar Mora, coached by OPEX HQ Coach Robin Lyons, is the youngest competitor in the Latin American Regional. Though it may be his first time competing as an individual at the CrossFit Regional level, it’s not his first time in the spotlight. Luis actually competed as a teenager in the 2016 CrossFit Games. Now after two years of hard work and dedication, Luis is ready to enter the Sport of Fitness as an individual competitor.

Time will tell who will claim the 2018 CrossFit Games qualifying spot at the Latin American CrossFit Regionals this weekend.
