KITCHEN ESSENTIALS

What You Need to Prep Food and Eat Healthy Consistently

Cooking your own food is essential to reaching your fitness goals. Why? Because you have more control over the ingredients inside your food than if you ate at a local restaurant, also it’s the most economical and sustainable option.

However, cooking your own food requires an investment in equipment, and many don’t know where to start or what they need. Here’s a list below of the bare necessities you need to get cooking!

1. Stainless Steel Cookware

It’s important that you use stainless steel as opposed to the non-stick variety of pans. Why? There are health issues associated with using non-stick pans. Studies have shown that pans coated with teflon can give off toxic fumes when the pans are heated to medium and high levels and sometimes the food you are cooking can be tainted by the coating.

2. Wood Cutting Board

You are going to need a reliable cutting board for chopping up your vegetables and your meats. Wood cutting boards are your best option.

3. Knife Set

Perhaps the most important and versatile tool in the kitchen, is the knife. But don’t just buy any cheap knife. You’ll want to find a decent set of knives that you feel comfortable holding and cutting with. Remember to keep them sharp. The safest knife is also the sharpest.

4. Organic Spices

No one likes eating bland, flavorless food. Eating that way is surefire way to develop a craving for sweets. You are going to want to invest in a decent array of varying spices in order to add some variety of flavors to your cuisine. We recommend organic spices to decrease the toxic load on your system.

5. Vegetable Steamer

Vegetables are no fun to cook, but they are a necessity in your diet. The vegetable steamer makes cooking any vegetable a relatively simple and painless process.

6. Glass Containers

You are going to need some sort of storage container for your leftovers and if you decide to prep meals ahead of time. Though it may be the more expensive option, glass is easier to clean and less toxic.
