THE MODEL WARS - BY CARL HARDWICK

What is the best model to deliver fitness?

Is it:

  • Individual design?

  • Group coaching?

  • Personal training?

  • Small group coaching?

  • Remote coaching?

  • Hybrid?

  • Small group remote coaching that feels like personal training but delivered like individual design due to its hybrid nature?

Ok, I’m just kidding on that last one, but we’re not too far off at this point.

Now, you know that I have a bias here, but bear with me.

There are a lot of models to choose from and positives and trade-offs within each. When thinking about this question, the following saying popped into my head:

Judge ideologies by their outcomes

What if we judged each of these models by the outcomes they produce?

I can speak for individual design confidently that it produces autonomous clients, connected and aligned clients, results the individual is looking for, a coach/client relationship, and a program that prioritizes the biggest priorities with prescriptions that the individual is capable of.

(If you’re curious about coaching with the individual design model, I’d encourage you to chat with an OPEX CCP coaching advisor to see if they think it could be a good fit. Just apply here to connect.)

Think about the model you are in and the models you have tried and think about the outcomes they’ve produced.

What kind of clients did they produce?

What kind of coach has it made you?

So, when deciding which model of fitness you want to deliver, start with the outcomes you want to achieve. Are you confident that this model will provide the desired outcomes for yourself, your clients, and the industry as a whole?

This concept can be stretched far beyond fitness and is a powerful one that I use often. I hope it helps you.

P.S. Judge ideologies by their outcomes was a guiding principle during my presentation on Retaining Clients Through Recession. Go here to watch the recordings from this free workshop.
