HOW COACHES LEARN
Coaching in the Trenches With James Fitzgerald
Now, learning happens through multiple different ways, through experiences of physical activity and also life experience and fitness experience. So there’s two tracks that are happening. I’ll give you a simple example:
There’s a 19 year old who wants to start becoming a fitness coach and there’s a 55 year old. The 55 year old has things on the 19 year old for fitness coaching, it’s just called an experience of life. So there’s things that that 55 year old had been through that they can understand and even comprehension of communication and relationships and everything, the 19 year old will never understand. So they can read a book on it, or they can ask clients about it, but they don’t have it.
So there’s not just fitness experience, but there’s life experience that are parallels that people have to do that continually need to upgrade over time, along with, let’s just call it book smarts, which means that as you start learning more and more about fitness, if there’s one area here, I guess, that there’s probably a never ending stream is probably the learning aspect. In that, there’s so much to learn, no matter what level you get to there’s now different aspects of learning on top of that, right?
